Celebrating One Year Free from Porn: A Journey of Setbacks, Awakening and Growth.

Yesterday marked one year free from internet pornography. Breaking free from explicit content when it’s simply a click away was no easy task. In fact, about a year ago I wrote an article providing statistics about the realities of internet porn. But I still managed to watch.

Today I celebrate one year free from porn because it symbolizes a commitment to personal growth, self-awareness, self-discovery, and liberation from numbing out. It also helps to destigmatize conversations about this topic and the sexual shadow people often take to their graves. When I learned to stop shaming myself and became self-accountable, I was able to bring more compassion and curiosity to my thoughts, feelings, stress, loneliness, boredom, low self-esteem, and daily experiences.

Your journey towards one year without porn will be faced with challenges, temptations, setbacks, and triggers. I encourage you to be honest with yourself. Education and ongoing support will be necessary as you embark on this path of discovery and healing. Finding friends and allies will greatly benefit you as they can provide encouragement, accountability, and understanding.

The rewards will be abundant for those ready to embark on this path. Your sense of resilience, empowerment, and confidence will be remarkable as you rediscover passions, find new ones, and create an authentic connection with yourself and others. You’ll begin prioritizing genuine connection over superficial quick hits of dopamine.

Remember that you are not alone. Your decision and commitment to live a life of authenticity, freedom, and fulfillment is a birthright. You can overcome the challenges ahead, and celebrate the victories one day, week, month, and year at a time. I hope my story can serve as a reminder that change, transformation, and self-love are possible.
